The Mississippi River, a 2,340-mile scenic waterway and the third largest watershed globally, hosts 360 fish species and takes 90 days for water to flow its length, but it carries 14–381 microplastics/liter, pumping 87–129 trillion particles daily into the Gulf, endangering its diverse ecosystem.
